Corporate Communications Division

Main Purpose of the office:

 

To design, develop and implement public relations and communications policies and strategies to promote a positive image of the Council and its activities, and to educate stakeholders and the public on its activities, role and objectives.

 

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

Develop a Public Relations Strategy to enhance stakeholder and public understanding of the role and objectives of the Council

 

a.   Develops a public relations strategy and plan for the Council which will enhance stakeholder and public knowledge about the role, activities and objectives of the organisation.

 

b.   Recommends the development of an advertising and media campaign to increase public awareness about the key objectives of the Council.

 

c.   Promotes awareness of the Council’s Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Objectives among stakeholders to enhance understanding of the role and objectives of the organisation.

 

d.   Develops and manages the public relations and advertising budget to ensure cost effective utilisation of available finance to maximise exposure and interest about the organisation within the country.

 

e.   Recommends the appointment of a public relations and advertising agency to optimise utilisation of budget and maximise returns to PR and advertising campaigns.

 

f.    Initiates market research to determine public perceptions of the Council and its work.

Pro-actively develops, and organises the preparation and dissemination of public relations and other material to promote an understanding of the Council’s role and functions, and public awareness about the its work.

 

g.   Solicits information from staff and other stakeholders and determines appropriate media for dissemination.

 

h.   Prepares various information booklets, pamphlets, etc. to disseminate information on the Council’s mandate and liaises with the Executive Secretary on the publication of information to enhance the image of the Council as an organisation that espouses the values of transparency, professionalism and professional excellence and innovation.

 

i.    Liaises closely with the ICT directorate on the design, development and maintenance of the Council’s website and ensures that the latest information is availed to the Directorate for updating the website; as well as ensuring that all enquiries received through the website are promptly answered.

 

j.    Prepares public relations and information packs for distribution to stakeholders and the public on issues relating to the work of the Council in order to enhance awareness of the role and function of the organisation.

 

k.   Assists in preparing speeches and materials for workshops to promote an understanding of the role of the Council as required.

 

Pro-actively develops strategies and plans to generate media interest in the Council and develops formal and informal relations to promote positive and constructive coverage of the work and activities of the Council.

 

l.    Preparation of press and media releases for the approval of the Executive Secretary and distribution to the media.

 

m. Carries out media briefings regarding the Council’s mandate.

 

n.   Responds to media enquiries and acts as the Council’s spokesperson within delegated limits.
