Replacement of lost or damaged certificates

Lost or Damaged Certificates

The Botswana Examinations Council issues a Certifying Statement as a replacement for lost or damaged certificates to applicants who have sat for any Botswana Examinations Council examinations (e.g. PSLE, JCE, BGCSE). The conditions for issuance of the replacement certificate are as follows:

Clients whose original Certificate is more than 5 years old

  • Identity card as proof of identity for citizens
  • Passport as proof of identity for non citizens
  • Applicants expected to produce a police abstract/affidavit to show that they have lost their original certificate. Clients may collect the affidavit form from BEC and make an oath in front of a Commissioner of oath (e.g. police officers), who will append a signature and put an official stamp.
  • Replacing a lost/damaged certificate currently costs P50.00

Clients whose original Certificate is less than 5 years old

  • Identity card as proof of identity for citizens
  • Passport as proof of identity for non citizens
  • Applicants expected to produce a copy of the certificate or a letter form the school as evidence that the certificate was collected and the applicant does not owe the school.
  • Replacing a lost/damaged certificate currently costs P50.00

 

When Names On Identity Card are different from the names on the Certificate

  • Applicants are expected to produce an affidavit to proof the difference names. Clients may collect the affidavit form from BEC and make an oath in front of a commissioner of oath (e.g. police officers), who will append a signature and put an official stamp.
 

When Surname On Identity Card is different from the one on the Certificate

  • Applicant expected to bring a certified copy of marriage certificate if married
  • Applicant should produce letter from  Home Affairs/ Chief as proof of change of surname if the applicant's surname has changed due to any other reasons except if the applicant is married 

When a person other the owner of the Certificate makes a request 

  • Applicant is expected to produce an authorization letter from the owner of the certificate to collect their certificate on their behalf
